LA is having a serious heat wave right now. I can be outside having lunch and get sun burnt without even noticing. It takes a lot of discipline to not strip down to a bathing suit and chill by the pool. But that’s not realistic so I look to the closet for easy solutions that will help bare the scorching temps. Your next inclination may be cutoffs and a t-shirt. However, I’m all about chic style so that’s not going to work. Stick to light colors
Unlike dark colors, lighter ones reflect light instead of absorb it. Now you know why I’m always caught sporting white, nudes, and beiges. They’re also timeless colors that are flattering on everyone so you can keep them in your wardrobe all year long.
Wear sleeveless and crop tops
When in the brink of summer, I swear by crop and sleeveless tops! There are a few I’m sure you’ve seen me wear on repeat like this one. From off the shoulder blouses to sportier inspired tops, have no shame in midriff and arm-baring styles. They’re key to surviving the treacherous heat. You can match them up with high-waisted bottoms and denim – both are my faves!
Midi skirts keep it chic
You can always grab your favorite pair of shorts, but they’re not necessarily the classiest option. That’s why I’ll usually wear a midi skirt in its place. This one by Aritzia is one of my favorites because it’s so easy to wear. Plus, I know I’ll be comfy in it even if I’m strolling around in a sunny city like LA.
Try breathable fabrics
Don’t be so inclined to grab silk or satin pieces. You want to wear fabrics that won’t trap in heat, such as linen, cotton, or gauze. I love how these never cling to the skin and induce more sweat. Fabrics are super important, so remember this point for later!
Sandals over sneakers
When it’s really hot outside, I put alway my closed toe shoes at all costs and pick minimal sandals. My feet need to breathe! I try to avoid super thin, leather straps. These ones from River Island are just perfect because they don’t dig into my skin and the low heel is great for walking!
