As you plan the remains of your summer adventures with friends and family, whether it be a day trip to the beach or a spontaneous road trip to a different city, do not forget to account for all that extra time being spent in the sun. It is easy to dismiss slathering on sunblock before you step out the door, but I am hoping this post ingrains the essence of why summer skin protection should be a priority and the products to help you do so.
Protecting my skin is a ritual I practice year round but I really emphasize it when I’m outdoors more often, like the summer season. Taking these measures can prevent facial discolorations and slow the skin from prematurely aging. And I don’t know about you, but I want to remain as youthful and healthy as possible!

Sun Protectors
SPF Moisturizer – A deep tan and healthy glow is still 100% achievable even with the extra step of applying sunblock. It can even help with ensuring your color is achieved more uniformly. A classic sunscreen lotion is effective, but luckily we now have options available in forms such as sticks and sprays so there is really no excuse anymore! Grab a travel size version to throw in your bag for whenever you step out of the house.
Hair Sunscreen – An area that is often overlooked is the hair and scalp. A day spent lounging poolside can cause some damage to this area so what can we use for protection? There are lots of hair sunscreen options including sprays and leave-in conditioners. Using these products can also help hair from drying out and preventing breakage. Ever since I colored my hair lighter, I’ve been forced to use a hair sunscreen. Here are some of my favorite ones:
Makeup – As the face is the most delicate and the area we tend to prioritize, you may even consider investing in makeup that has SPF, in addition to applying a sunscreen as a base. There are so many amazing products ranging from foundation to tinted moisturizers that offer protection and do not compromise the quality of the formula.
Lip Balm – If you are anything like me, you have a chapstick for every case scenario. I have a chapstick I leave beside my bed, a chapstick in my car and a chapstick in my bag. For the ones I use outside of the house, I make sure they too have SPF within them because believe it or not, your lips can easily sunburn too!
Skincare Tools
Clarisonic Mia – I just advised you to slather all this moisturizer and SPF onto your skin but every bit of it will eventually need to come off. I cannot recommend the Clarisonic Mia enough! If you’re looking for squeaky clean skin that isn’t stripped of all its moisture, this tool will get you there. With a cleaner base, your skincare products will absorb better so you can see results faster.
Contour Shaper – I got this facial contour shaper from Dr. Jart in a kit and I have been obsessed with it. I use it nonstop to massage my face and neck, focusing on my cheeks and under eyes. This product is a godsend after traveling because it helps de-puff and stimulates my skin.
Exfoliating Skincare
Exfoliating Serum – It’s normal to have more breakouts in the summer because we sweat more, making our skin conducive to dirt, and we pile on so many beauty products such as sunscreen, bug spray, and oils.
