The passing of Thanksgiving is a reminder that winter is coming, so it’s time to upgrade your skincare products. I picked up most of my skincare tips from my mom while growing up in Panama and I can clearly remember her with vials of Neutrogena. It wasn’t cold in Panama, but my mom was well-traveled and instilled strict skincare rules in me once I moved to the states. My skin usually gets dry and flaky on my face and body during winter. And since I rarely speak about body care on the blog, I’ve partnered with Neutrogena today to share some tips on stepping up your winter body care routine.
1. Use a body balm in place of regular lotion
One of the things my mom taught me was to use a body balm. Summer and fall in LA might be forgiving, but it can get chilly during winter! So I switch out my basic lotions for something heavier such as the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Whipped Body Balm. I love that this one isn’t too dense and greasy. The whipped texture makes my skin feel so velvety and provides the intense moisture it craves in the winter.
2. Keep a hand cream in your handbag
I don’t throw too much into my handbag but an essential hand cream is definitely a must in the winter. The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hand Gel Cream is one of my favorites. My hands end up feeling quenched and plump even though I get obsessed with washing them and using sanitizers.
3. Try a cooling product
Sometimes when my skin is really irritated, it can get red and painful. Another trick I learned from my mom is to apply a cooling product. The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Body Gel Cream is a great option. The light gel formula is so refreshing and calms my skin down every time I use it. I notice that my skin looks instantly healthier and radiant, but above all, it feels silky smooth.
4. Add a body scrub to your bath regimen
While bathing be sure to exfoliate with a nourishing body scrub. It’s a truly effective way to get rid of dead skin cells and scaly patches so you can nourish your skin the right way. I try to exfoliate my body twice a week to alleviate dryness especially on my legs.
5. Layer your body care products
My last advice is to layer your body care products if you have super dry skin. After you exfoliate, massage some body oil into your skin and then apply a body balm on top, like the Hydro Boost Whipped Body Balm. By the next morning, your skin will feel much softer and more supple than ever.
I love that this line is so effective yet affordable and easy to find – it’s available at Walmart. How do you care for your body in the winter?
