Although I appreciate casual pieces like jeans and a slouchy sweater, there’s nothing I love more than smart basics. I know tailored style has gotten a bad rap over the years, but I’ve always loved the classic aesthetic. I’m sharing the 3 winter basics from Ann Taylor that I swear by that easily go from work to night out.

1. Cardigan
A cardigan is probably one of the most versatile pieces you can own in the winter. It’s the easiest way to make a lace or silk cami office-appropriate. You can then style it for a night out by losing the cardigan or tucking it into high-waisted pants with a few buttons undone. This piece can be worn for literally any occasion and it’s a huge trend right now.
2. Skinny Black Trousers
During the colder months, black pants are my go-to. I love the stretchy material on these Ann Taylor ponte leggings. It has a dressed up look that’s perfect for a business meeting or a day at an office, but it’s also slimming enough to be tucked into boots for happy hour.
3. Poncho
Ponchos are another trend that’s coming back. They’re so perfect for crisp days when you need another layer to go over a blazer or cardigan. But, they’re also great with black skinnies for a more dressed up look on a cool night.
