Fashion week is always the perfect time to experiment with wild trends and new things. This fashion week was a special one for me because it was my first ever flouncing around with short hair! I have been so happy with my hair since cutting it and wanted to try something different.

I took notice of the exposed bobby pin hairstyle trend last year and knew it was time to rock it with my new hairdo. After hours of scouring Pinterest, I found a few ideas that Alex helped me bring to life. You guys also seemed to love it on Instagram which made me so joyful. Alex was kind enough to give me the details on how she achieved this bobby pin hairstyle, so I’m breaking it all down today!

Step 1

First, Alex prepped my hair with the Ouai Wave Spray while it was damp. I have been a fan of this spray since its inception because it gives me that texturized, gritty texture without drying it out.

Step 2

Then, she dried it with Dyson’s Supersonic Hair Dryer. I previously spoke about how I want to splurge on this one, and I’m about 100% convinced now. The dry time is so fast, and it makes my hair feel nice and smooth!

Step 3

While blowdrying, she used this round brush to promote airy volume. I haven’t perfected my round brush technique, but apparently this brush gets a firmer grip on the hair, so I’m going to try it out.

Step 4

She then set my hair with Ouai Memory Mist, a priming spray that shields from heat tools and holds styles.

Step 5

Once my hair set, Alex went in with this curling iron and created waves all around my hair.

Step 6

And to relax the curls, she used this flat iron to bend out the ends and random sections of my hair. A trick I learned was creating s-like bends on 1 inch sections of the hair that frame my face. It’s how you get that effortless, glamorous wave effect.

Step 7

She used this classic Mason Pearson brush to smooth out the top and sides of my hair after the curling and bending was completed. Then to smooth it down to a matte, moldable texture, she used this hair pomade. It’s great for taming baby hairs and fly aways.

Step 8

Finally, Alex secured one side of my hair with bobby pins creating 3 x-like patterns. I love how it accessorized my hair in a simple, sleek way! Next time, I might be more adventurous with decorative or metallic hair pins.
