Hi guys! One of my goals this year is to open up a little bit more with you guys and give you a more personal experience beyond just the regular day-to-day fashion posts. Today’s post is an example of that, it’s more of a story and look into my actual life, while also showing you how I incorporated an outfit into my day.
As a bonus, today’s post gives you all a much closer look at what Panama is truly like. I realized I wanted to step it up a bit and show you a bit more of my beautiful country, after all, my blog is called The Girl from Panama!
This weekend was really wonderful. We ventured outside of the main city where my parents live and drove about 20 minutes to another part of town known as El Casco Viejo. As soon as you arrive you can immediately see the change from the “new” city to the old one. It’s made up of colorful buildings, lively plazas, tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurants, and plenty of shops and markets.
El Casco Viejo was actually built in 1673, just 2 years after the original city was almost completely destroyed by pirates. (Yes, pirates!) You really do need to visit this area if you ever come here. It has so much history, charm, and beautiful architecture. Also, this is where the Palacio de las Garzas is located—which is essentially the equivalent of a Panamanian White House.
Speaking or restaurants, there are so many picturesque and delicious places to eat. You can find everything from coffee and empanadas, to delicious steak and seafood. Some of my favorite places to eat are The American Trade Hotel, Mostaza (pictured below), and Madrigal. Once you’re done with dinner, if you’re in the mood for some drinks and dancing, Zaza or Tantalo are great options.
It was a hot summer day, but fortunately I managed to keep cool in this striped top, faux-leather skirt, and of course, my Panama hat! Also, these Valentino sandals are surprisingly comfortable and were perfect for walking up and down the narrow sidewalks of El Casco Viejo.
