Dresses, especially midi lengths, are a flexible wardrobe piece and come in a range of styles that are perfect for any occasion from the office to date night or drinks with the girls. Whether you choose a flowy silhouette to create a feminine effect or a classic sheath style for its crisp, clean-cut lines, dresses are one of my go-to pieces for class and sophistication. Its definitely reached status as a popular everyday style, even in the winter. If you’re not certain on how you can pull this off for the colder season, all you need to do is add boots. Here’s how to wear dress with boots.

Midi + Maxi Dresses
The first step in pairing a good boot with a dress is to go off the style and silhouette. A major principle that I go off of is creating balance through silhouette and structure. Softer dresses with flirty ruffles, floral print, or asymmetrical hemline can be complemented with a more understated midi or knee-high boot that sits under the opening. Or if you’re feeling an edgier look, toughen up a sweet floral midi with hiking-inspired lace-up boots.
Mini Dress
A tighter, figure-grazing dress that hits above the knee can be easily dressed up or down depending on the boots. A pointed suede or leather stiletto boot that rises over the knees come off feminine and sexy while western-inspired boots make a statement with a daring, unexpected vibe. This season, I’ve been very into slouchy midi boots and knee-high cowboy boots.
Mix Patterns & Color
The second step is looking at your colors, materials, or prints, and seeing how you can create contrast. Got a bright and vivacious flowy print? Don’t steal its spotlight with another pattern on your shoes. It’s best to offset prints and patterns with a simple yet bold color to ground the look, such as white sock boots – or my favorite, black. If you’re wearing a straight long-length wool or cozy knit dress, try a patent leather ankle boot in a playful texture, like croc, to liven up the look. Keep in mind, midi length dresses are a great way to show off your favorite statement boots.
