If you have been paying any attention to what I wear lately, you’ll notice that cargo pants have been on heavy rotation. And whether you love or hate them, it’s official that they’re a trend. I can’t remember the last time I wore a pair of cargo pants but since fashion has a way of recycling literally everything, it’s time to grab yourself a pair. Although it is certainly a trickier piece to pull off for girls who prefer sophisticated style, there are some tricks you can use to work it into your wardrobe. And today, we’ll be chatting about how to wear the cargo pants trend.

Step 1: Pick the right silhouette for your body
These days, cargo pants come in all shapes and silhouettes, and the first step to getting this trend right is finding a silhouette that works for you. Cargo pants are typically characterized by their voluminous shape, large pockets, and green or khaki color. You’ll find them in various leg styles from joggers to crops and floor grazing trousers. Since I am petite side and prefer elevated pieces, a crop trouser silhouette was the one for me. I knew this was a piece I can partner up with various tops and blazers I already own.
Step 2: Use a few tricks to balance out the masculine style
Your next step is to lighten up the heavy style. In order to achieve this, you need to be strategic in the top you pair it with. I have been wearing mine with t-shirts and a blazer lately, but lightweight sweaters worn half tucked and silk camisoles also look elegant and polished. I noticed that fitted tops and silky materials balance out the stiffer volume. But if you are edgier in the way you dress, a deconstructed top can give off a street chic vibe.
Step 3: Pair them with sleek heels
The last step is to pair your cargo pants with a pair of sleek heels. They’re such a great way to infuse some femininity back into this masculine style. Although I opted for my favorite minimal heels, pointed toe pumps and ankle boots also make great shoe options when it gets too cold for sandals.
