We’ve all experienced that “I have nothing to wear” moment, and it can be so frustrating when you have a closet full of clothes. I think it happens to me most when I start buying into a lot of trends instead of investing in fashion staples. And even though I still buy trends now, I always reach for the same streamlined pieces that fit like a glove and make great outfits. If you’re just getting started building a strong foundation of fashion staples for a chic and classic wardrobe, I’m sharing my top 10 must-haves today. 1. The White Shirt
The white shirt comes in so many variations, but I think there are some characteristics that make it the one – collar, buttons, and cuff. It’s a classic because you can wear it to work tucked into your skirt or pants AND on the weekends with shorts. My top today is a little trendier with the front knot, however, it’s still polished and clean outside the office.
2. Midi Skirt
There is no length more perfect than the midi when picking a classy skirt. I love this style because it doesn’t reveal too much, which means you can get as adventurous as you want with your top. Pick a neutral color so you know you can wear it through the years.
3. Blazer
I feel that blazers are one of the most versatile pieces out there. You can wear them with jeans like I always do, belt it at the waist, or layered over a dress. It’s one of those items you can rely on to look tailored all the time.
4. Perfect Jeans
People have different preferences for jeans. I don’t think there’s a specific leg style that’s better than the other. However, I love cropped styles and mom jeans that are loose around the hips but tighter at the ankle. What’s important is that you pick a style you’re comfortable in and make sure the length is great for your height.
5. Trousers
I wear trousers all the time, especially the ones with a high rise. I love how they help add height, but you guys know crops, wide legs, and straight legs are all up my alley. If you can afford to, purchase all three styles. You won’t regret it.
6. Basic Tee
Everyone needs that one casual tee that they can throw on with jeans and run out the door. Wider scoop neck tees with an oversized fit are my weakness!
7. Camisole
Camisoles are another staple in my closet. I have so many of them in various colors because they never fail to complete a look that involves skirts, trousers, and jackets.
8. Leather Jacket
Leather jackets haven’t received as much buzz lately but I still consider them an essential. Everyone needs at least one real leather jacket in black that they can wear year-round. I emphasize genuine leather because if taken care of, it’ll last you an eternity!
9. Turtleneck Top
Okay, so I don’t think any of you will be wearing a turtleneck at the start of summer, but it’s a good piece to have in your closet at all times. I live in turtlenecks in the winter time because they keep me nice and toasty. Plus, it’s just a great layering piece for dresses or jackets.
10. Nude Heels
To complete my list of fashion staples for a chic and classic wardrobe, I recommend a pair of great nude heels. A flesh-toned heel makes me look super tall, so that’s why you can catch me wearing them all the time.
