Today I’m back with my monthly series covering denim. If you’re new to the site or have missed past months, this series is all about styling denim. Each month, I share how I’m wearing denim and add in tips on styling that specific style. In June we covered white denim, July was all about cuffed jeans, and for August, I’m loving the denim skirt. Yep, they’re back!
You’ve probably noticed that jean skirts are back in stores or on your Pinterest feed, but have you worn one yet? Personally, I don’t wear many denim shorts so jean skirts are a lot easier to style for me. They’re comfortable, cool, and fashionable if you style them right.

Here are my tips for doing so:
LOOK FOR DETAILS
The way to make your denim skirt look current? Find a chic detail. Similar to jeans right now, there are lots of options to choose from. Whether that’s a wrap style, a slit, or a raw hemline, pick one that’s unique. I love this midi skirt I’m wearing today.
PLAY WITH PROPORTIONS
If you are wearing a high-waisted midi skirt try wearing it with a crop top to balance out the look. This is a good trick for short girls like me :) On the contrary, if you are wearing a mini skirt style it with a chunky oversized sweater or a light duster jacket for a cool vibe.
PICK THE RIGHT SHOES
In order to pull off the current trend of denim skirts, wear mules. Sandals make the look too casual, and heels are doing too much. Stick with a sleek pair of slides or fun mules to liven the look up. If you want your legs to look long, find a neutral pair that matches your skin tone.
