The over-the-shoulder or draped jacket trend is something that took off in 2016, and is still going strong into 2017. I’ll admit, when I first saw this trend, I thought it was kind of funny. A jacket is supposed to go on your arms, right? But as I saw this trend more and more, I sorta fell in love. It looked very cool girl and effortless to me. Also, once I figured out how to pull it off, it actually became functional.

The key, I’ve found, is to find a jacket that’s wide enough to actually stay on your shoulders. If the jacket is too small, it’ll fall off right away, so try this with a bigger coat. A men’s jacket would work too! This style coat is perfect because it fits my shoulders loosely when it’s on and is great for this look.
Sometimes it’s not cold enough for a jacket, but you know it’ll be later, so I kind of think of this look as a way to layer. It’s basically the updated version of tying something around your waste. I paired it with more layers, like the bustier and the collared shirt. I kept everything untucked to go with the effortless vibes the jacket is giving off. The staggered-hemmed jeans helped with that feel too, I think. A black Chloe backpack and booties to finish everything off!
I plan on draping an oversized denim jacket with dresses once spring officially hits too! I think we’ll be seeing more and more of this look throughout the year.
