It was somewhat chilly in Boston this weekend, but it’s still much warmer than what I’m sure we’ll be experiencing this coming winter. When the seasons start to change and the weather fluctuates, I don’t think it’s necessary to completely shift your wardrobe and stuff everything away that you’d previously been wearing somewhere deep in the back of your closet. Instead, get creative with the way you dress and try to utilize more transitional pieces that can be worn in different seasons.
I wore this outfit Sunday afternoon while strong around downtown, as my husband and I tend to do on the weekends. I think this dress is a great example of a piece that can be used to transition from early fall to the beginning winter. The secret to this look was simply layering—having several pieces you can rely on when you need layers is a must have with any wardrobe. Essentially what I did was paired this light dress with a warm sweater and added a coat because it was starting to cool down a bit more in the afternoon. Also, I didn’t need pants because I had my trusty pair of over-the-knee boots.
There are a lot of different methods of styling transitional pieces: you could wear a button up shirt and add a pullover, or if you have a long dress you love, try wearing it with a cardigan and a coat. Let me know what are some of your favorite ways to do this, I’m always looking for new ideas!
