My Updated Everyday Waves Hair Tutorial

My Top Beauty Picks of 2018 by Pam Hetlinger | TheGirlFromPanama.com | short wavy lob, blunt lob

One of the beauty looks I get asked about most is how to create my everyday waves. It’s always so interesting to me when people ask about how I style my hair because it comes so natural to me that I don’t often think about the tricks and products involved in creating soft, loose waves. For those of you who have been asking, below is a step-by-step video tutorial!

Step 1

First, I like to prep my hair by spraying in a few products to hold my waves in place and create volume. The two I swear by are Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray and Ouai’s Wave Spray. Both smell amazing and give me that gritty texture that helps set my curls.

Step 2

Next, I section off my hair so I can curl it. I like to use a 1″ curling iron for the most natural effect. With the curling iron, I usually wrap my hair around the barrel and then pull it out. This twist and pull technique keeps the end of your hair straight and results in a more effortless look. As I get closer to the top of my hair, I’ll switch to the curling iron to a wand position for more defined waves.

Don’t forget to rotate the direction of your curls and occasionally spray them with the Dry Texturizing Spray. It’s also super important that you don’t touch them immediately otherwise they can’t set. When you finally get to the top section of your hair, start your waves on the lower half of the shaft as this will help the waves look more natural. If you don’t, you’ll end up with tight, voluminous curls.

Step 3

The last step is to lock in those curls using this hairspray and shake it out. If any of your strands look dry or frizzy, I highly recommend using this De-Frizzer and this balm. I use both of them daily and they always keep my mane looking smooth and healthy.
